Stephen Fry will host the Bafta film awards next year, taking over from Jonathan Ross.

The TV quiz host said he had had "a marvellous time" during his first stint as host, from 2001 to 2006, and looked forward to 2012: "Hard as it may be for some characteristically sceptical Britons to believe, the Baftas have real kudos, reputation and cachet all over the world of film-making and I, old as I am, never cease to be shamelessly glamorised by the sight of so many legendary names who come every year as nominees and presenters."

The ceremony is the UK's biggest film event and is often a pointer for success at the Oscars. This year's ceremony, which was held in February, was dominated by The King's Speech, which scooped seven awards on the night. Ross said he had "thoroughly enjoyed" hosting the awards and wished Fry the best.

The 2012 ceremony will take place on Sunday 12 February.
